Scaling new heights

Calorify's origin traces back to 1949 when Dr. Nathan Lifson laid the groundwork for doubly labeled water. Over decades, scientific advancements in the field led to vital discoveries, yet still less than 15,000 people were tested in 40+ years. The time to measure the world’s metabolism was long overdue.

Hari Mix, founder & CEO, is a seasoned scientist with a PhD from Stanford, specializing in innovative oxygen and hydrogen isotope measurements for doubly labeled water. His lifelong passion for pushing personal limits led him to a fascination with metabolism and performance. When preparing to climb Manaslu, the world's 8th highest mountain, Mix collaborated with metabolism expert Dr. Herman Pontzer to incorporate doubly labeled water in his training and expedition.

The results were astonishing: in contrast to a previous Manaslu trek where Mix lost 25lbs, he only lost 11lbs, with just 3lbs being muscle. This experience unveiled the power of understanding one's unique energy budget and was the catalyst for Mix and Pontzer to join forces to launch Calorify in 2022.
